Building a Supportive Social Network

About Us

Parents of Tots was started in 1983 by a group of parents who wanted to have a local, social community for raising their children. Playgroups, field trips to area family fun spots, and parties were planned to create opportunities for interaction. Just as those parents knew decades ago that their children would form friendships and that the adults would have a chance for interaction and trading parenting advice, the same holds true for us today.

Originally, Parents of Tots was founded in Wakefield but the group soon found value in including surrounding towns. More activities, more parks, more outings but perhaps most importantly, more people to grow the group and diversify our membership.

Through the years, Parents of Tots, or PoT, has grown and flourished due to volunteer involvement. Parents bring their unique talents to the planning of each event, outing, and project.  There is a flexible structure in place that has both stood the test of time and grown through the years. PoT communications started as a simple calendar, then became a few page mailing, eventually growing into a monthly 20+ page newsletter.

We host regular Member Mingles, which are a chance for members who may not have seen each other recently to reconnect, as well as an opportunity to introduce new friends to the group.

In October, our annual Halloween Spooktacular party is sure to be a treat!  Our winter wonderland party and spring fling are other favorite annual events.  Parents-only nights out; book club; playgroups; trips to area museums, play spaces, and parks; and community service engagements all add options to the Parents of Tots' experience.

We also offer Tot Time, a monthly play date with a themed craft and stories along with open free play., developed as an idea to help keep members connected. Parent volunteers make this happen and it is funded by our membership fee and fundraising efforts. Tot Time started in 2007 and continues to be a popular activity for children and parents alike.

Monthly meetings, hosted virtually and in person, allow the group a chance to communicate and plan, as does our annual strategic planning session. Parents of Tots is as strong as its active membership because everything operates on a volunteer basis. The flexibility of participating in the events and field trips that work for your schedule and the wealth of information offered in our publications and website give members a great resource. Making friends, contributing to the community, and reaching out to others on our parenting journey proves to be rewarding and helps us to be better parents!

PoT members stay connected through the monthly e-newsletter, our Instagram account, public Facebook page, and our members-only Facebook group.  Our low $40 per year membership dues make Parents of Tots accessible to all (email us if the annual fee is a hardship for your family!).
